Good morning Del Cerro:
San Diego Fire-Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Kelly Zombro, a San Carlos resident, is a national authority on fighting wildland and canyon fires. He will be the guest speaker at tonight’s (Oct 9) Navajo Community Planners Inc. meeting which will begin at 6:30 at the East San Diego Masonic Lodge located at 7849 Tommy Drive in San Carlos. Wildland and canyon fire season is upon us. The Santa Ana winds forecast for the next couple of days and the possibility of SDG&E shutting down electricity in parts of east county as a safety precaution is a wake-up call for all of us. We all need to be prepared in case there is a major fire in one of the many canyons in the Navajo Community. Remember, it is not just homes bordering our canyons that are at risk; embers can be blown in excess of 4 miles.
Chief Kelly was instrumental in the production of the video on canyon fires that is shown at the Mission Trails Visitor Center. Tonight, Wednesday, October 9, he will be speaking about the dangers of wildland canyon fires and what we, as homeowners, need to do to prepare for a canyon fire in the Navajo Community. Prior to joining the City of San Diego’s Fire-Rescue Department, he was a Deputy Fire Chief for Cal Fire and managed Cal Fire operations for all of San Diego County. This is a subject that should be very important to all of us!
